Separable verbs

Prefixes like an-, auf-, aus-, ein-, mit-, zu-, ab-, vor- split off in the present and simple past and move to the end. In the Perfekt, “ge-” goes between the prefix and the stem (aufgestanden). With a modal, the verb stays whole at the end.
