Wo? vs. Wohin? — position & direction verbs

Wo? (where?) is for something that sits in a place and does not move → dative. Wohin? (where to?) is for moving something to a place → accusative. Three verb pairs: stehen (to stand, be upright) ↔ stellen (to stand something up); liegen (to lie, be flat) ↔ legen (to lay something down). hängen is the special one — the same verb covers both: to be hanging (dative) and to hang something up (accusative). 🧠 Memory trick: if the question is Wo?, ask "where is it right now?" ➡️ dative; if it is Wohin?, ask "where am I moving it to?" ➡️ accusative. This distinction still matters at B1 and B2.
